Runner's World App Reviews

Slow loading

I love to read RW on my iPad but the new app really needs to be improved. It is hard to get around in magazine and it is very slow loading.

Upgraded App = Degraded Experience

The previous app was wonderful. The staff at Runners World had done nice upgrades over the years that made the digital version a pleasure to read. This new update has completely ruined the digital experience. Until they fix this experience, I will be moving back to print format. So much for going green.

Worse than Nook Version

No preview on PDF version, unlike Nook and how it was previously on iOS. Offline reading is broken, you cant tell when the entire magazine is downloaded or even IF its downloaded, and the PDF version always starts from page one even if the last page you were reading was 60 pages in. And when you turn a page, it takes an age to render. The article view is not a replacement for the prior experience. It might work on the iPhone but the iPad version is much much worse. Somehow an app that has been great since 2011 has been completely borked. Nice one.

Worst update ever

What I loved about the old version is that I could still get the experience of reading the actual magazine by swiping through page by page. The new version continues to be awkward and lacking in any kind of flow. The little how-to that was inserted when you open the app does not help! Please, bring back the old format!

Really should get zero stars

What everyone else has said here. This is the worst magazine app ever (seems that rodales other magazines apps have also suffered the same fate). No functionality, clunky and unwieldy to use. Its like some sort of beta version of a magazine app in the early days of apps. Who thought this was good?! Absolutely unreadable. Will cancel digital subscription if this is not fixed.

Horrible new format, hard to navigate

This new look is boggy and slow to respond to finger swipes. There is a noticeable lag when going to a new page or just scrolling through one page. As far as readability there isnt much positive to say. I like the clean look, but there isnt much to anchor my eyes as I move around each page. The narrower columns of the previous look were easier to read (and yes, I know that is because they are just like the print magazine). Runners World could incorporate a similar design to what Outside magazine uses - it retains the look and feel of a print magazine, but allows you to scroll through articles without sacrificing readability. It looks familiar, but manages to keep a lot of information on the page without looking cluttered (no more continued on page ## anymore!). Everything looks so spaced out now with the new design, and with the small type it is harder to read. Ill check out the print edition - but if this redesign extends to that as well, Im cancelling my subscription. Sorry, Runners World.

Old format was better

The old format was a far better user experience. Not only is the new format bland, but its awkward to use. I miss being able to swipe through the actual spreads from the magazine.

Ruined the app

Completely ruined the RW iPad experience. Used to be like reading the print version, but enhanced. Now its just plain horrible. Just canceled my subscription.

How do you even use the new format?!?

Ive given up using the app. No clue how to even navigate it. How could they go backwards in technology and usability?

Simply a Gift

I just took up running and have three races under my belt including a half-marathon. RW is simply a gift to a beginner like myself. It affirms me and confirms what Im doing well or not. I enjoy sifting through all the pages.

How do I get a redund?

Bought a subscription last year and the app worked fine. It was renewed automatically and now the app not working. How long does it take to upgrade your app to IOS7? Can I get a refund?

Not for print subscribers

I have a print subscription, but unlike other mags you cant access the iPad version without buying another subscription.

Worst App Ever

Trying to download latest issue is simply too painful. Will never subscribe to this magazine again, after wasting my money here.

Not available for print subscribers?

Im a more than a little disappointed that I cannot access the digital editions of RW, despite having paid for the print version. All of the other magazines I subscribe to allow access for print subscribers! (Womens Health, Scientific American). Get it together.

Keeps Crashing

Its a great app until you try to keep reading and it crashes.

Pathetic

Sad this is one of the last publications to charge its paying print subscribers for access to the digital magazine. Funny thing is their digital content is subpar to other magazines that offer subscribers both print & digital (see MensHealth, MensFitness or Golf Magazine to see how its done).

Constant Crashing

App is hard to use when it repeatedly crashes over the same spot in the magazine.

Disappointing

Cant get it to work. Stick with paper.

Great magazine. Dont get it on iPad

The magazine itself is great. But dont get an iPad subscription, the publisher just doesnt get how to do iPad publishing right. I was a print subscriber and received a "convert to digital" email from them. I had a great experience with that with other magazines like Wired, so I did it. When you get digital, they did not give me access to any of the back issues - even the issues that I had received the print versions of. This is ridiculous. They should make the entire back catalog available. They also pitch the digital as "get the latest issue sooner", but when I signed up on 2/1, I had already received the march issue and that was not yet available in the iPad version. Give it a pass until someone else says this stuff is dealt with.

Awful

I have a new iPad...up to date....app for magazine crashes non stop...DO NOT SUBSCRIBE...this is first negative app review I have ever given...it is a waste of money when you cant read because app crashes so much.....
